On Walden Pond

While Grammy and Poppy were here we decided to take them on a hike around Walden Pond. We had tried to do this same hike about a year ago as a family, but it was raining so hard we turned around half way through and came home for hot cocoa. This happened to be a beautiful fall day and we all had a wonderful time. Our dad is so handsome...

We got a few shots here on this stone staircase and as per usual each of us looked better in a different picture than everyone else. We may photoshop them all together to create the perfect Christmas card photo. For now, this is a fairly happy medium.

The kids kept sitting on the edge of the pond and striking a "Thinker" pose. Porter was thinking about Tech Decks. It was especially funny when Maya decided that the thinker needed to eventually come up with an idea. She stuck her finger in the air like "I got it" then, making a circle with her two hands and putting them above her head made a speech bubble to signify her idea. Bennett's idea was "I know, we should get in the water". Not so bright.

We spent a little time on the rail road tracks and did a napkin check, because it seemed sutiable. When I was in Young Womens we had napkin checks at each meal at girls camp. We loved it. A napkin check is where everyone starts counting down from ten to one, and while they are counting you quickly grab a napkin and fold it into a fan and pinch it in the middle so it makes a bow/mustache/bowtie. Then everyone recites together "I can't pay the rent" (putting the napkin up to the side of their hair like a damsel in distress) "You must pay the rent" (putting it under their nose like the villans mustache) "I can't pay the rent" (hair again) "You must pay the rent" (mustache) "I can't pay the rent" (hair) "You must pay the rent" (mustache). Then everyone pounds on the table to signify the horse of the hero approaching and recites "I'll pay the rent" (In a heroes manly voice, while holding the napkin under their chin like a bow tie) "My hero" (hair) "Curses foiled again" (mustache). I'm glad I got that down for posterity! Try it at dinner tonight:) If it's not clear call me or Sarah or Mom and we'll demonstrate.

Maya was truly terrified. Like we'd let her get run over by a train, silly girl.

Your kids are getting so big. Porter looks almost as tall as Jeff in the picture of them laying down together!

I miss you guys.

Oh my! I can't believe how big your kiddos are getting--especially Porter! He's huge!!! We loved seeing Walden Pond when we were back there too. Very peaceful. Have you guys gone to Louisa May Alcott's house back there yet? I'm sure you already know, but she authored Little Women. I love that book so we of course had to tour her house. I loved it. You would too. Try to go if you can. Hope all is well!
