Harrison Lake

Porter and I were invited on a backpacking trip to the Beehive lakes near Harrison lake in Northern Idaho by Cameron Rippy and his son Kimball who is Porter's age. Cameron is the scout leader and so along with 8 other scouts, we hiked up a steep 5 mile trail to the top of some alpine lakes. I carried most of Porter's gear, but gave him a fanny pack so he could carry the essentials such as a water bottle, squirt gun, sling shot, whistle, pocket knife and other things a 7-yr old would call a necessity.

Here we are at the trailhead ready to set out.

One of the first stream crossings we came across, we took the opportunity to dunk our hats for a quick cool down.

Porter and Kimball took every opportunity to fill up their waterguns.

The view from the trail just kept getting better and better.

Some stream crossings required a little balancing help from the adults.

When we finally got near the top of the trail where the lake was, the boys were thrilled to find tons of snow. Needless to say there were snowballs thrown and the water was frigid. Seriously, like 32 degrees. There were icebergs floating in the water, but that didn't stop me from jumping in and swimming 20 feet, climbing onto the iceberg, and then jumping back in and swimming back to shore where I suffered the worst Ice cream headache i'd ever had. I don't know how Bear Grylls does it.

Porter tried fishing, and had fun practicing his casting.

Quentin caught a fish and Kimball and Porter thought it was so cool. I taught them how to clean a fish and they thought it was so cool to see the fishes guts.

When nature calls, you gotta answer. Just don't forget the toilet paper.

Porter was exhausted on the way down and all he could think about was getting some food because his dad forgot to pack enough food.

When we got back to the cars we decided to play in the river to cool off and clean up after two days of smelling like sweat and campfires.

Rexburg Idaho

While Miles and I were at my parents house Casey and the kids went to Rexburg to visit with Rob and Brisa, and Dan and Angela (and baby Calvin - Bennett was telling me about Calvin, but instead of saying Calvin he called him 'baby cowboy'). They did a lot of fun things and I'm sad I wasn't there, but I got to feel involved by looking at these pictures...
THE SAND DUNES

They got the van stuck in the sand, but luckily Dan and Peggy were able to combine their strength and maneuver that machine out of there. Casey said the sand dunes were fun, but it was so windy they kept getting sand in their eyes. They each figured out a way to protect themselves.

Maya implemented the Arab method

Benny used what he had on hand (unfortunately it WAS his hand and it was so sandy it may have just made it worse)

and Porter decided to take a lesson from the headless horseman and tuck his entire head into his shirt.

BIG JUDS

I'm really sad I missed out on this place. I love their giant burgers and Maya the Meat-atarian seemed to love it also. Interesting fact...If you finish the whole burger you get your picture posted on the wall. I ate the whole thing while I was in college and got my picture posted, but before leaving Rexburg I stole the picture off the wall. Maybe I'll scan it and post that picture sometime...

HOT SPRINGS

The kids each made a fishing pole from a stick and some string, and as a hook they tied nails to the end, surprisingly enough nobody caught a single thing.

Miles and I...

The past few weeks have reminded me of that time when I only had one baby. First I went to Utah and only brought Miles, then we flew to Indiana together. We had a lot of fun, and life was strangely calm, but I'm glad to be back with the big kids and Casey (the biggest kid of all). Here are some photos from our trip.

Miles got to play with Landon and Addie, and ride the lawn mower with Nana. He loved it, even though he looks serious in the picture. It wasn't a giddy kind of love, but he really enjoyed riding around on it. Everyone kept saying we need to cut his hair because he's too pretty, and I'm hesitant to add that he was called a girl by more than one passing stranger (even with blue clothes on). Maybe it is time for a hair cut???

We got to spend time with Jenna and Carly (my cousins), which was way fun. Jenna was such a great help with Miles, she would hoist him onto her hip and tote him all over the place.

Stev-o played the bagpipes (just prior to the taking of this picture Grant had his ears plugged), and Grampy juggled and played a LOT of corn hole (Miles tried to play too, we had to tell him "it's not a slide")

Lousiville had their firework show on Monday, so we all went down to watch. It took forever to start, but Miles LOVED watching. He sat mesmerized on James lap.

I thought the picture of Brad and Jessica turned out so cute. What an adorable couple!

We even squeezed in a little shopping. I got a pair of Old Navy jeans for $6.00 Woo Hoo!
Not pictured-
Lots of swimming/tanning (aka burning)
Pool Volleyball in which the girls dominated both games!
Dance party
An attempted trip to Cracker Barrel (it was closed so we settled for steak and shake)
A successful trip to Cracker Barrel for apple dumplings (to die for)
James played Rummy cube with me
Giovanni's pizza
It was a great trip and I sure love those guys!

A little of this, and a little of that...

Ok, so the Alton Brown thing was a joke. Casey's cousin's husband looks just like him, and we though it would be funny to post pictures (just to see who would believe us). Anyway, now that I have that off my chest, on with the update. Last weekend Peggy, Malerie, Miles and I drove (12 hours) to Utah so we could see the newest little Elmer. He was so sweet and we had a great visit. The day after we got back to Washington my Granny passed away, so Miles and I are in Indiana right now visiting my family. It was nice to be here for the funeral (even though I missed my 10 year wedding anniversary). It's been fun to see everyone, but we miss Casey, Porter, Maya, and Bennett. Here are a few pictures from out trip. Miles couldn't figure out how to use the binki to save his life, silly baby.

This is the house my Gran lived in when I was growing up. Every summer we visited this house, and played with the neighbourhood kids. Every Christmas we gathered here and had so much fun spending the holiday together. While my Dad was in Desert Storm we lived here for a year along with my Uncle Bobby and his son Robby. We were all pretty sad when (12 years ago) she decided to sell the house and moved into a little trailer, but she LOVED her trailer!
